Privacy Policy
There are no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Somewhere To Be uses your location (or a ZIP code you type) only while you're using the app, to find events, classes and places near you. Everything the app saves stays on your device. We don't run a server that stores information about you, and we never sell or share it. To show results, the app asks public services such as Google Places and OpenStreetMap for listings in the area you're looking at.
Who we are
Somewhere To Be is made and published by Just A Little Project Studio LLC, a small independent studio in New York, USA (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what information Somewhere To Be uses, where it goes and the choices you have.
Information the app uses
The app never asks for your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos or payment details, and there is no sign-in.
- Your device's location, if you allow it: to show events, classes and places near you and how far away they are. Used only while you're using the app, never in the background, and kept only on your device.
- A ZIP code, if you enter one: to use that area instead of your location. Kept on your device, with a short list of recent ZIP codes.
- Your settings (age groups, distance, the Free/Paid filter and All-ages): to remember your choices. Kept on your device.
- Saved copies of event listings and place details: so the app loads quickly and works with a weak signal. Kept on your device and refreshed every few hours.
Services the app contacts
The app has no server of its own that receives your information. To show results, it requests public information directly from the services below. Some of these requests include a location (your coordinates, a ZIP code or the map area on screen). They never include your name or anything else that identifies you. Like any internet request, these services can see your device's IP address and handle it under their own privacy policies.
- Google Places: ratings, reviews and more places near you. The request includes the area you're searching.
- OpenStreetMap data through public Overpass API servers (overpass-api.de and its mirrors): parks, playgrounds and places in the area on screen.
- Zippopotam.us: turns a ZIP code into a map location.
- U.S. National Park Service API: events at national parks near you. The request names nearby parks, not your location.
- USDA Local Food Portal: farmers markets near you. The request includes a rounded area (about 20 miles across), not your exact location.
- Ticketmaster Discovery API, when ticketed events are shown: the request includes the approximate center of the area you're browsing.
- somewheretobe.app: the list of public libraries for your state. The request names a state, not where you are in it, and we don't log who downloads it.
- Public event calendars run by libraries, towns, parks departments and class providers: their event listings. These requests don't include your location.
- Apple: Apple Maps draws the map, and Apple's location service turns your coordinates into a town name on your device's request. When you tap Directions, Apple Maps or Google Maps opens and that app's privacy policy applies.
- Expo (EAS Update): when the app opens it checks for an update to the app's content. The request includes technical details such as the app version, your device's operating system and a random install ID used only to deliver updates. It doesn't include your location.
What we don't do
If you have turned on Share With App Developers in your iPhone's Analytics & Improvements settings, Apple may give us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. Apple strips them of anything that identifies you, and you can turn this off in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
- We don't collect, store or keep a history of your location.
- We don't sell or share information with advertisers, data brokers or anyone else.
- We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We don't use analytics, advertising or crash-reporting tools that collect personal information.
Purchases
Somewhere To Be is a one-time App Store purchase with no in-app purchases or subscriptions. Apple handles the payment and doesn't share your payment details with us.
Keeping and deleting your information
Everything the app saves stays on your device until you delete the app. Deleting the app removes it all. Because we don't hold any information about you, there's no account to close and nothing for us to delete. If you have a question about this, email us.
Your choices
You can stop sharing your location at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services › Somewhere. The app keeps working if you enter a ZIP code instead.
Children
Somewhere To Be helps families find activities for kids, but it's made for parents and caregivers to use. It doesn't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
The somewheretobe.app website
The “Libraries near you” page on somewheretobe.app works out distances in your browser. If you use your location, it never leaves your device; if you enter a ZIP code, that ZIP is sent to Zippopotam.us to find its map location. That website doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking. Its host may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and pages requested, for security. If you email us, we use your email only to reply to you.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll post the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top. If a change affects how we use information we already have, we'll say so clearly here (and in the app where that makes sense) before it takes effect.
